The JK Windsor Cup and Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger and Satellite Tournament will feature many of the elite Canadian and international players who will compete for prize money during the week-long event that features two separate sessions.
While some matches will take place inside the Windsor Squash Club, the majority will be played within a glass court to be located in the mall’s former food court area known as the “Great Court.”
The glass court being brought to Windsor for the tournament is owned by Squash Canada and has been used elsewhere at a variety of venues, said Anis Khan of Windsor, the local tournament’s CEO.
“I got excited when I saw it used in a shopping mall in Toronto for a national event,” he said. “When I looked at that and all the excitement of everyone, I said we need to hold something similar in Devonshire Mall.”

Typically, only 20 to 30 people are able to view squash matches in a small area through glass at one end or above a court, Khan said. Having the unique glass court in place can increase seating capacity up to about 175 spectators surrounding the players at all angles.

Playing matches in the mall will also allow shoppers strolling by to catch a glimpse of the action, he said.
