PETALING JAYA: Malaysia were the big winners at the Asian Junior squash championships, as they scooped four out of the eight titles in Pattaya, Thailand.
Aira Azman secured the girls’ Under-19 title after beating Kirstie Wong of Hong Kong 11-8, 11-3, 11-2 in an 18-minute final.
Harleein Tan secured another title in the girls’ category when she overcame Hong Kong’s Chloe Lo 11-3, 11-2, 11-0 in just 14 minutes.
Malaysia secured two more titles in the boys’ Under-15 and Under-13 categories. Both events had featured an all-Malaysia final.
In the Under-15, M. Nickhileswar defeated Aqil Mirza Khairil Fariz 11-8, 11-9, 11-6 while Sim Yeak Wei beat Raziq Putra Fakhrur Razi 11-6, 6-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-3 for the Under-13 title.
Na Joo-young of South Korea denied Malaysia the boys’ Under-17 title when he beat Low Wa Sern 11-7, 11-8, 13-11, while Japan’s Akari Midorikawa defeated another Malaysian Goh Zhi Xuan 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 to secure the girls’ Under-17 title.
Joachim Chuah lost the boys’ Under-19 final 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9 to Noor Zaman of Pakistan.
