England’s James Peach and home hope Marek Panacek will do battle in the final of the Ostrava Squash Open in the Czech Republic on Sunday afternoon after the pair came through their respective semi-final contests at the Challenger 5 level competition.
Panacek, the World No.153 and the tournament’s No.4 seed, came up against top seed Diego Gobbi in his last four contest at Sportovni Centrum Fajne, and came through in four games to advance to what will be his first appearance in a final on Tour.
The Czech man won the first game 11-9, but then lost the second game comfortably, as the Brazilian was able to show his class. Panacek responded, however, to win the third 11-6, and he held on to claim the fourth game on a tie-break to take the win, and move through to the final.
He will now face Englishman James Peach on Sunday in Ostrava, after the competition’s No.6 seed defeated another home hope in the unseeded Ondrej Vorlicek. Peach had overcome No.2 seed Jakub Solnicky to make it into the semi-finals, and he got the better of Vorlicek in straight games, on court for just half an hour to book his place in the final.
The final of the Ostrava Squash Open will take place on Sunday, August 7 at the Sportovni Centrum Fajne in Ostrava, Czech Republic, with all the action being streamed live and free on the PSA Challenger Tour YouTube channel. You can also keep up to date with live scores from the event on the PSA World Tour’s website.
