An investigation over the weekend between the Bristol Township School District and township police discovered messages that were perceived as threatening were actually balderdash.
Last Friday afternoon after school had let out, screenshots from social media of “concerning and possibly threatening messages” alleged to have been made by a Truman student began circulating. The message were not direct threats, but the context of them worried officials, a district administrator said.
Harry S. Truman High School Principal Jon Craig wrote to parents the threats were “unsubstantiated” and discovered to “not be threats at all.”
A district spokesperson said parents were made aware of the outcome of the investigation on Sunday.
“We would like to thank the students who sent these emails which allowed us to complete an investigation and ensure the safety of all our students and staff,” he said.
Below is Craig’s email to families:
Dear Families,
We wanted to make all parents and guardians aware of a report that was brought to our attention late on Friday afternoon and how we have addressed the situation.
After dismissal on Friday afternoon, multiple students emailed social media screenshots to administration which showed concerning and possibly threatening messages allegedly made by a Truman student. None of these messages had direct or specific threats, but the context of the messages gave us concern.
Working in conjunction with the Bristol Township Police Department, we conducted an investigation and found these threats to not only be unsubstantiated, but to not be threats at all. We would like to thank the students who sent these emails which allowed us to complete an investigation and ensure the safety of all our students and staff.
We continue to encourage your students to come to us, contact us, or make a Safe 2 Say (www.safe2saypa.org) report with any concerns so we can address them promptly and maintain a safe learning environment.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jon Craig
Principal
