PETALING JAYA: National squash player Addeen Idrakie has set his sights on breaking into the top 70 in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) rankings by the end of this year.
He is currently ranked 81st and aims to go higher as he prepares for the QSF 3 2022 which is the PSA Challenger Tour 20 in Doha from May 20-24.
“My biggest target this year is to break into the top 70. For now, I hope to reach the quarter-finals of the QSF 3 2022,” said Addeen.
The 28-year-old will open his campaign in Doha against 676th ranked homester Ahmad Altamimi and should face little trouble moving to the next round.
Addeen is looking to push on after mixed performances so far this year due to injury.
“My performance has been up and down so far because I tore my right shoulder muscle during training at the end of January. I needed a month to recover and another month to continue training and regain my fitness,” explained Addeen.
His last outing was the Irish Open in Dublin last month where he lost in the first round to 63rd ranked Rui Soares of Portugal.
Before that, Addeen paired up with Ong Sai Hung in the World Doubles Championships in Glasgow and finished eighth in the playoffs after falling in the quarter-finals.
Addeen did reach the semi-finals of the Islamabad International Championships before bowing out to Pakistan’s 109th ranked Noor Zaman.
Now, the Kuala Lumpur-born player will be looking to do better and has also set his sights on winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham from 28 July-Aug 8.
“I hope to win a medal of any colour in the Commonwealth Games,” said Addeen.
The 28-year-old feels that he needs to improve physically and use better strategies to achieve his targets.
“I need to improve on my fitness and be more mature in my game play during matches,” he said.
