
Indian squash star Dipika Pallikal Karthik won both the women’s and mixed doubles titles at the WSF World doubles championships in Glasgow.
In mixed doubles, Dipika and Saurav Ghosal beat England’s Alison Waters and Adrian Waller in the final, by an impressive 11-6, 11-8 scoreline. It was India’s first ever gold at the doubles championships. Dipika also paired up with Joshna Chinappa to win the women’s doubles title, beating Rachel Arnold and Sivasangari Subramaniam of Malaysia.
Dipika, meanwhile, was making her return to the sport after a four-year gap, last featuring in the 2018 Asian Games, where she won a bronze in the singles event.
“For us women, our bodies go through a lot, day in and day out, and I think it’s important to believe in ourselves,” Dipika, who give birth to twins last October, was quoted as saying by worldsquash.org. “What’s really worked for me is I’ve had a lot of support from family and friends and that’s why I’m here today, because a lot of people believed in me.”
Before this, India had never won a gold medal at the World Doubles Squash Championships,
