Q: You come from a family of squash players. (Father Raymond Arnold and siblings Timothy, Delia are former national players). Is it a blessing or a burden?
A: No pressure at all and it is an advantage for me. My dad, Tim and Delia are experienced and have been on Tour and I always get advice from them. They have supported my career all the way.
Q: You will not have your regular doubles partner S. Sivasangari this time. How are you taking it?
A: We almost got to the quarter-finals in 2018 Gold Coast edition and were looking forward to a medal this time around. We were shocked with the accident but relieved and happy that Sangari is recovering well. She will be in my thoughts as I do battle with my new partner Aifa (Azman).
Q: What is your way of staying focused in a hectic professional tour and how do you beat boredom?
A: Music. Hip-hop is my choice and I always listen to music when I’m under stress. Whether it is before a match or after training. Music helps me to regroup. When I had Covid-19, hip-hop music got me going.
Q: What is your ultimate goal in your career?
A: I would like to become a top five player in the world before calling it a day and if possible, I also want to win a gold at the Commonwealth Games as well.
Q: What remains your most memorable achievement in your career?
A: Winning the 2015 SEA Games individual gold is something I will cherish for a long time. It was my first breakthrough success and gave me the confidence to look forward to the professional career with confidence.
