The final of the Carey Olsen Tortola Classic is set, with Canadian No.1 David Baillargeon and Hungarian No.1 Balazs Farkas ready to do battle for the Challenger 10 level crown in the British Virgin Islands.
Hungary’s Farkas, who featured at the PSA World Championships 2021-2022 following his win at the Odense Open earlier this year, took on the unseeded Belgian Joeri Hapers, and he came through in four games, relatively unscathed compared the usual battles the tall left-hander has had recently.
Farkas played his usual relaxed style, and Hapers was unable to work with it, with the Hungarian winning the first two games to the loss of just nine total points. Hapers fought back to take the third game, but the World No.77 regrouped and found his game again in the fourth, winning it 11-3 to book his place in the final.
He will now face Canadian No.1 David Baillargeon on Saturday afternoon at the Tortola Sports Club, after the tournament’s No.2 seed overcame USA’s Andrew Douglas to reach the final. He flew out of the blocks to take the first 11-1 before then losing the second quickly, with Douglas tying the match at ones.
The Canadian then held a big lead in the third game, but saw the American save five game balls. However, Baillargeon was able to close it out, and thanks to winning that, he carried the momentum through to the fourth, which he also won to advance to the final.
The final of the Carey Olsen Tortola Classic will see Balazs Farkas and David Baillargeon go head-to-head for the Challenger 10 level crown at the Tortola Sports Club in the British Virgin Islands.
