For the fourth day in succession, England’s Georgina Kennedy got the better of a higher-ranked opponent, as she downed Belgium’s Tinne Gilis in the semi-finals of the DAC Pro Squash Classic to move into the final.
The Englishwoman, who sits just outside the top 50 in the World Rankings, had already defeated Finland’s Emilia Soini, USA’s Sabrina Sobhy and New Zealand’s World No.8 Joelle King en route to the semis.
She then came up against Belgian No.2 Tinne Gilis for a place in the final, and she took the first game 11-4 in comfortable fashion. The second game was tighter, but at 5-4, Gilis had to retire through injury, with Kennedy moving through to the biggest final of her career so far.
The World No.51 will face World No.2 Nouran Gohar in the final, after the Egyptian got the better of USA No.2 Olivia Clyne in straight games, winning 11-4, 11-3, 11-8 in 34 minutes in Detroit.
