PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Aifa Azman has defied the odds by winning the women’s final of the Malaysian Open squash championships.
The 20-year-old wildcard shocked world No. 8 and top seed Salma Hany 12-10, 11-8, 11-4 at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.
Aifa fought hard in the first two sets but showed great composure and class in the third set, winning her 11th PSA title.
The world No. 69 is the fifth local to win the Malaysian Open women’s title after Low Wee Wern, Rachel Arnold, S. Sivasangari and Datuk Nicol David in the last decade.
