PETALING JAYA: National squash player S. Sivasangari’s spirited run in the World Championships came to an end in the Last 16 stage in Cairo on Wednesday (May 18).
The Malaysian, ranked World No. 20, found the going tough against Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb and lost 11-5, 4-11, 11-15, 13-11 in a 42-minute clash.
Despite coming back strongly to take the second game 11-4, Sivasangari could not stop the former World No 3 from clinching a place in the quarter-finals.
El Tayeb will join a strong Egyptian field in the last eight which features six players from the host nation.
Nour will next play another Egyptian, third seed Hania El Hammamy who defeated Georgina Kennedy of England 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, in the quarter-finals on Friday.
